The New York Giants aimed to rejuvenate their lackluster offense during their Week 6 match against the New Orleans Saints by substituting starting quarterback Jameis Winston for former first-round selection J.J. McCarthy. This decision came as the Giants were trailing 34-10 with just over ten minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the switch, noting McCarthy’s entry into the game.
McCarthy’s initial series ended poorly with an interception, yet he later rebounded by connecting with tight end Isaiah Likely for a touchdown, reducing the deficit to 34-24 with just over five minutes left. This switch marked the second consecutive week McCarthy replaced Winston, as he previously entered a special package during a Week 5 tie against the Washington Commanders. Both quarterbacks were stepping in following the injury of starter Jaxson Dart, who is out for the season after a Week 2 game.
